TUBMAN COMMUNITY GUIDE

Abbey Kate Martin, MPH is a skilled relationship-builder, facilitator, and community-centered public health professional who serves as Tubman Community Guide. She is passionate about the intersection of social enterprise and public health to create just health systems and is also deeply committed to partnering with community to develop and implement new solutions to improve wellbeing.

Previously, she served as Manager for a multi-state mental health promotion and substance use prevention campaign, which included facilitating community conversations across the region that improved access to care, increased funding for local initiatives, and established new creative partnerships. She has also worked as a performance coach, supporting university students in identifying goals and walking alongside them as they made progress toward those goals, and as a liaison between community members and healthcare systems.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Public Health Degree in Health Promotion & Health Behavior, both from Oregon State University. Abbey is also a true West Coaster, having lived in all three West Coast states.
  • Superpower: Believing the best in people and reflecting it back to them.
  • Kryptonite: A good ol' fashioned reality dating show — I can't help it!
  • Known on the streets for: Spotting celebrities in the wild, described by a friend as being an expert in "celebrity location awareness." Also for knowing the best spots to eat, being able to attach a song to any mood, dramatic storytelling, and couching anything and everything in a good pop culture reference.
  • When not at work: My life revolves around family, friends, food, creativity, and exploration. I love new-ness — seeing new things, traveling to new places, connecting with new people, listening to new music, and trying/making new foods. I also welcome a good dance party, anytime, anywhere, and am an avid writer.
  • I identify as: Someone called to serve all those who God has placed in my path, no matter our similarities or differences. Also, as a mixed person who knows what it's like to walk between worlds.
  • I dedicate my time at the Tubman Center for Health and Freedom to...Those who didn't know, or who don't know yet, that they deserve to be seen, loved, known, and cared for.
