Marlowe Barrington, RN

REGISTERED NURSE & BE WELL CLINICAL TUBMAN GUIDE

Marlowe Barrington, RN is a nurse with a background in pediatric care, including oncology and high-acuity inpatient settings. Her clinical background includes chemotherapy and biotherapy administration for children and adolescents with cancer, sickle cell disease, immunodeficiencies, and other complex conditions. She has also worked as a certified nursing assistant in pediatric oncology/hematology and home health settings serving older adults.

Marlowe earned dual degrees in Nursing (BSN) and Comparative History of Ideas (BA) from the University of Washington. As a recipient of the Mary Gates Research Scholarship, she examined how hagiographies (idealized biographies) of foundational nursing figures obscure the racist and colonial origins of nursing and how this erasure continues to shape nursing. During her undergraduate years, she also served as a leader within Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., organizing community-centered initiatives focused on women's health, breast cancer education, mental health advocacy, and intergenerational engagement between college students and seniors in the community.

At Tubman Health, Marlowe is excited to support chronic disease management, reduce barriers and improve access to care, and partner with patients and families in their care to achieve equitable health outcomes and more positive clinical experiences.
  • Superpower: Empath, active listener, creative problem solver with a strong sense of justice.
  • Kryptonite: Any kind of thrift, vintage, or antique shopping situation. I live for the thrill of the hunt and giving treasures a second life as gifts to my friends or adornments for my apartment.
  • Known on the streets for: My eclectic fashion sense. I worked part-time at a vintage store while studying for nursing school, which has definitely informed my tastes.
  • When not at work: Watching movies with my family and their two XL bullies. Shopping with my friends or enjoying a happy hour dinner deal. Taking a weekend trip. Drawing. Journaling. Hanging with my cat, who's been my companion since I was ten years old.
  • I identify as: A biracial Black woman, daughter, sister, Aquarius, mischief-maker.
  • I dedicate my work at the Tubman Center for Health & Freedom to…: The incredible Black women in my life who have shaped and inspired my pursuit of nursing and health justice β€” from my momma to my aunties, sorority sisters, friends, and ancestors, both familial and communal. I hope to honor you through this work, which I feel so privileged to be a part of!
