Movement Is Medicine.
At Tubman Center for Health & Freedom, we believe movement is medicine.
Movement is about so much more than exercise. It is a powerful tool for healing our bodies, supporting our mental health, strengthening our relationships, and reconnecting with ourselves and our communities.
Our Movement Is Medicine program creates welcoming, community-centered spaces where everyone can experience the healing power of movement—regardless of age, fitness level, ability, or experience.
Our bodies know how to heal.
Movement can help us listen to our bodies, build strength, find joy, and feel more connected to ourselves and one another. This is movement rooted in healing—not perfection.
Move your body. Support your whole self.
Moderate aerobic exercise, like getting your heart pumping during a brisk walk, is recommended for at least 30 minutes, five days a week. Because of our lifestyles in this country, we often have to be intentional about making time to move our bodies and get our hearts pumping.
It’s also recommended that people do activities that engage muscles twice a week.
It can be about feeling stronger, sleeping better, finding joy, managing stress, and building connection.
